RECORDING: Longing

A Threshold recording about living in the in-between spaces

What is longing to you? How have your deepest desires shaped your life?

Today, Emily Conway and I explore longing, the scratching feeling that there is something more, something that needs to change. We ponder how longing differs from desire, how longing has motivates us to make change, and how living in a human body might mean learning to live with unfulfilled longing.

Here are insights from our talk:

  • [00:02:30] Belonging has “longing” in it.

  • [00:05:30] There isn’t any “it”—only the longing.

  • [00:08:30] We must create the world we long for.

  • [00:13:00] Longing is like a bird singing.

  • [00:17:30] Longing, desire, and escapism.

  • [00:24:00] Do longing and desire lead to purpose?
